2. Do we need to stop eating meat to help protect the planet?
3. a. Beef produces the most greenhouse gas emissions, which include methane.
b. At one stage, beef production is the leading cause of deforestation in tropical rainforests which adds to the environmental impact of beef from that part of the world.
4. a. But then on the other hand, meat is an essential source of nutrients and calories for a large part of the human population, and this in itself is one major argument for meat-eating.
b. The last argument is that the environmental effects of factory farming have also been criticized, particularly the waste produced during raising and slaughtering and the high cost of grain-based meat production.
5. The writer’s position is for the issue. He believes that it’s not wise to keep eating meat while on the other hand, we cannot protect the environment’s sustainability for our life in the future.
Moreover, the writer suggests that we should find other food substitutions of meat that can provide all nutrients and vitamins needed.
